Virginia (Gini) Lee Murphy (nee Ragland), age 63, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Florida Hospital Orlando of complications from liver disease. Gini was born at Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C. on May 3, 1952 and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. Virginia also resided in Columbia, South Carolina; Conway, South Carolina; Norway, Maine; and Waldorf, Maryland. She was the daughter of Maurice A. Ragland and Irene E. Ragland. Gini graduated from Robert E. Peary High School in Rockville, Maryland with the class of 1970. She graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology/Psychology, and a Master of Arts degree in Behavioral Neuroscience. One of her proudest moments was being accepted into the Experimental Psychology Doctoral Program at the University of South Carolina. Gini worked for the Greater Rumford Alliance for the Mentally Ill as Executive Director/Clinical Program Director and at Dorn Veterans Hospital as a Behavioral Neuroscience Researcher. At the time of her passing, she was disabled and enjoyed the retired life. In her spare time, Gini loved to paint, do puzzles, watch soap operas, travel, hang at the beach and watch the Redskins and Patriots play football. She loved spending time with her family and friends more than anything else in the world. She is survived by her daughter Carrie Linn Murphy Hayden of Palm Coast, Florida; three grandchildren, Samantha Linn Downey of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Jazzmyn Nicole Hayden and Zachary David Hayden of Palm Coast, Florida; a sister Carol Ann Williams of Frederick, Maryland; a brother David Maurice Ragland of Ashburn, Virginia; a nephew Otho (Chip) Holland Williams III of Laurel, Maryland; a niece Michelle Elizabeth Williams Gaines of Frederick, Maryland; and cousins Patricia Jane Fitzgerald and Pauline V. Schnur. Gini was a surrogate mother to, Nikijo Murphy Bluth of Eden, North Carolina, Bridgette Annette Murphy Chavous of Conway, South Carolina and Kelli Marie Murphy Helton of St. Paul, Virginia. She was a surrogate grandmother to Dakota Mckenzie Bluth, Bryton Daniel Bluth, Hunter Christian Bluth, Ammon Mateo Bluth, Hannah Elizabeth Bluth, and Mayarose Bluth of Eden, North Carolina; Jodi Lee Murphy, Kaytlin Elizabeth Murphy, and Tylor Dean Chavous of Conway, South Carolina; Leslie Rae Murphy, Brandon Michael Helton, Shara-linn Helton, and Joshua Alexander Helton of St. Paul, Virginia; and William Bruce Hayden, Jr. of Pottsboro, Texas. Gini was a surrogate great-grandmother to River Julian Via of Eden, North Carolina; Jaxin Levi Murphy, Jasper Liam Murphy, Davilynn Brooke Jeffords, Kimberlynn Nichole Jeffords of Conway, South Carolina; Addison Marie Hayden of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Cade William Hayden of Pottsboro, Texas. She was preceded in death by her father, Maurice Alexander Ragland, her mother Irene Elizabeth Ragland, her niece Laura Marie Williams, and her cousins Ernest J. Hughes, Robert L. Hughes, and Wallace R. Hughes. Arrangements are being handled by Good Life Funeral Home & Cremation in Orlando, Florida.
