Thelma Pauline Wells
February 4, 1923 - January 4, 2022
Thelma Pauline Parker Wells passed away peacefully at home in Orlando, Florida on January 4, 2022. A resident of Orlando since 2005, Thelma was born on February 4, 1923 in a farmhouse in Ovid, Michigan. She was the fifth of six children born to Joseph and Lillie Neller Parker. Her early education took place in a one room schoolhouse. After completing two years of college she began her teaching career, also in a one room schoolhouse, eventually moving to Detroit to teach in the city. Thelma was introduced to John Wells in 1947; they married six weeks later. Together they raised two daughters, Linda and Debbie. Thelma spent her daughters’ early years at home, resuming her teaching career in Detroit in 1964 after earning a bachelor’s degree from Wayne State University. She enjoyed being involved in Bible Study Fellowship and Community Bible Study for many years, as well as traveling across the country and overseas following her retirement. Thelma was known for her good sense of humor and energetic personality. She loved her family, her friends, teaching school, and hosting dinner parties. Most of all she loved her Savior, Jesus, and made sure her daughters grew up in church so they would have an opportunity to know Him, too. Thelma was predeceased by her parents and siblings: Leona Garber, Bob Parker, Vileta Hathaway, Helen Doherty, and Bill Parker; her husband John and nearly all of her dear friends. She is survived by her daughters Linda Scott (Gil) of Toronto, Debbie Brown (Mike) of Orlando, four grandchildren: Becky Armstrong (Rob) of Toronto, Bill Scott (Amy) of Edmonton, Alberta, Katie Neff (Aaron) of Dayton, Ohio, Beth Foster (Mitchell) of Altadena, California and six great-grandchildren: Maggie, Jack, Ava, Will, Anna and Ethan. Thelma’s family wishes to thank Gentry Park Memory Care in Orlando for the wonderful care they gave Thelma for the past two and a half years – especially Stacey, Ashley, and Sarah. The family is also grateful for the attentive services from AdventHealth Hospice Care. Although Thelma will be dearly missed by her family, they are grateful for her nearly 99 years of life, and rejoice that she is now experiencing the joy and healing of Heaven. A private family gathering will take place at a later date. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Cru (give.cru.org) or AdventHealth Hospice Care (www.adventhealth.com/foundation/adventhealth-foundation-central-florida/donate-hospice-care-east-florida).
