Elva Magdalena Lopez Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, Elva Magdalena Lopez, loving wife and mother of three daughters, passed away at the age of 96. Magda was born on July 14, 1925 in Chiapas, Mexico. She was the child of Angel Barrios and Rosario Ramirez. After her father died, she grew up on the rural farm owned by her grandmother. Magda met her future husband at a Christian Convention in Mexico City. At age 22 she left her homeland behind and took a plane to NYC, arriving during the blizzard of 1947. Two weeks later, she married the love of her life, Neftali Lopez on December 31, 1947. As a young bride she learned to sew and worked as a seamstress in the garment center factories of Manhattan, the fashion industry of the world. She became very skilled as a sewing machine operator that she would make custom dresses for her three little girls for special occasions; costumes for local performances and even a wedding dress for her daughter Miriam. Magda loved the Lord Jesus and He filled her with a passion for people. She poured her heart of service into her family as the matriarch and also into every church community she was a part of. She was never shy with strangers, but could talk to anyone about their homeland as she and her husband had traveled the world together. She loved tending her roses and vegetable/fruit gardens in each of her homes. This hobby along with working out at a Baily’s gym until age 85 kept her in shape. Then she also joined a local senior citizen gym until the age of 96. She will always be remembered for her loving kindness, compassion, generosity, and slammin’ home cooked enchiladas! Magda was preceded in death by her husband, Neftali and her 4 siblings. She is survived by her 3 children, Lucy (Julio), Miriam and Elizabeth, her grandchildren, Aria (Aron), Charlotte, Miriam (Gaurav), and Moises, and her great grandchildren, Luke, Rachel and Hazel. A graveside celebration service will be held on Tuesday, August 9th, 2022 at Cypress Hills Cemetery in Brooklyn, NY at 10 o’clock am. El sábado, 9 de julio de 2022, Elva Magdalena López, amada esposa y madre de tres hijas, falleció a la edad de 96 años. Magda nació el 14 de julio de 1925 en Chiapas, México. Ella era la hija de Angel Barrios y Rosario Ramírez. Después que su padre falleció, ella se crió en un rancho rural propiedad de su abuela. Magda conoció a su futuro esposo en una convención cristiana en la Ciudad de México. A los 22 años dejó atrás su tierra natal y tomó un avión a Nueva York, llegando durante la tormenta de nieve de 1947. Dos semanas después, se casó con el amor de su vida, Neftali López, el 31 de diciembre de 1947. Como una novia recien casada, aprendió a coser y trabajó como costurera en las fábricas del “Garment Center” de Manhattan, la industria de la moda del mundo. Se hizo muy hábil como operadora de máquinas de coser que haría vestidos personalizados para sus tres niñas para ocasiones especiales; disfraces de actuaciones locales e incluso un vestido de novia para su hija Miriam. Magda amaba al Señor Jesús y él la llenaba de pasión por las personas. Ella derramó su corazón de servicio en su familia como la matriarca y también en cada comunidad de iglesias de la que era parte. Nunca fue tímida con los extraños, pero podía hablar con cualquiera sobre su tierra natal, ya que ella y su esposo habían viajado por el mundo juntos. Le encantaba atender sus rosas y jardines de verduras/frutas en cada una de sus casas. Este pasatiempo junto con el ejercicio en un gimnasio de Baily hasta los 85 años la mantuvo en forma. Luego también se unió a un gimnasio local para personas mayores hasta la edad de 96 años. Siempre será recordada por su amabilidad, compasión, generosidad y enchiladas caseras fuera de este mundo! Magda fue precedida en la muerte por su esposo, Neftali y sus 4 hermanos. Le sobreviven sus 3 hijos, Lucy (Julio), Miriam y Elizabeth, sus nietos, Aria (Aron), Charlotte, Miriam (Gaurav) y Moisés, y sus bisnietos, Luke, Rachel y Hazel. Un servicio de celebración junto a la tumba se llevará a cabo el martes 9 de agosto de 2022 en el cementerio de Cypress Hills en Brooklyn, Nueva York, a las 10 de la mañana.
